DAY 5 January 25, 2010 PIHA CLEANS UP HAWAII WORLD TEAM EDITORIAL CORRESONDENT ANDY MELAMED It was another full day of action at Piha, site of the QUIKSILVER ISA JUNIOR WORLD SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS. On Monday New Zealand showed the world just how beautiful it can be as the weather and waves cleaned up overnight. A dominant lefthander appeared at podium one for the boys under 16 and under 18, while a winding righthander provided some scores for the ladies at podium two.

Inspiration can come from all sorts of places.. In New Zealand at Piha Beach, site of the QUIKSILVER ISA JUNIOR WORLD SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS the Verizon Wireless Hawaiian Team “under 16 groms” learned a lesson from their team mates difficulties from the day before.

The winds blow all dayŠ onshore creating waves and unpredictable conditions at Piha, site of the ISA JUNIOR WORLD SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS. And so far the Verizon Wireless Hawaii Junior Surf Team has not lost anyone to the chop and inconsistencies.

Field General Rainos Hayes said it best, “With the weather comes the surf.” Not like Hawaii which is buffeted by swells from all directions, some generated thousands of miles away, Piha in New Zealand was hit straight ahead with a monster storm, rain, wind and a sea that became a virtual storm drain on Friday January 22, the second day of the ISA Quiksilver World Junior Surfing Championships.
