Piha was the site of this years QUIKSILVER ISA JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPION-SHIPS. Hosted by New Zealand and attended by 21 countries representing the best young amateur surfers from around the world. After 8 continuous days of double elimination competition thru storms, and sun, and waves ranging form small to extra large,  Finals Day came down to a face off once again between team Australia and team Hawaii. Although this was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Hawaiians they found themselves in a battle for the GOLD with 4 heats remaining in the overall  competition.  
The key to the overall finish was to have surfers in the Finals of all three divisions. Koa Smith advanced to the finals in the boys under 16 rounds. Alessa Quizon advanced to the womens final for the second consecutive year.

Day 7 of the QUIKSILVER ISA JUNIOR WORLD SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS found all 21
teams on the beach sporting their team colors.  And spirits were high..In an
8 day double elimination competition day 7 is extremely crucial.

at Piha, site of the ISA JUNIOR WORLD SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS.  And so far the
Verizon Wireless Hawaii Junior Surf Team has not lost anyone to the chop and
inconsistencies.

HAWAII WORLD TEAM EDITORIAL CORRESONDENT

It was another full day of action at Piha, site of the QUIKSILVER ISA JUNIOR
WORLD SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS.  On Monday New Zealand showed the world just
how beautiful it can be as the weather and waves cleaned up overnight.  A
dominant lefthander  appeared  at podium one for the boys under 16 and under
18, while a winding righthander provided some scores for the ladies at
podium two.

Inspiration can come from all sorts of places.. In New Zealand at Piha Beach, site of the QUIKSILVER ISA JUNIOR WORLD SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS the Verizon Wireless Hawaiian Team “under 16 groms” learned a lesson from their team mates difficulties from the day before.
